Zertyzzle boosters: Hammer, Tornado, Magnet and Undo

Zertyzzle has four boosters: the Hammer breaks the crystal of your choice, the Tornado shuffles the whole board, the Magnet removes every crystal identical to the one you tap, and Undo puts the board back as it was before your last move and gives you that move back. You earn them by playing or trade stardust for them. Here's exactly what they do and when to use them.

This page is part of the Zertyzzle guide. Boosters sit at the bottom of the game screen on map levels.

The Hammer: your anti-obstacle tool

Tap the Hammer, then a crystal: it breaks, the crystals above fall, and the drop can set off a chain reaction. But its real talent is obstacles:

  • on a frozen crystal, it removes one layer of ice instead of breaking the crystal;
  • on a rock, it removes one layer (a plain rock shatters, a metal-banded rock loses its band);
  • on a padlocked crystal, it opens the padlock and leaves the crystal in place.

That makes it the booster to save for obstacle levels, especially when a padlock freezes half the board. The Zertyzzle obstacles page covers each of them in detail.

The Tornado: when nothing lines up the way you need

The Tornado shuffles the whole board. Use it when the available line-ups don't bring you closer to your goals, or when the crystals you need are scattered. Note that if there are no moves at all, the game already shuffles the board for free: keep the Tornado for boards that are playable but badly laid out.

The Magnet: wipe out a color in one go

Tap a crystal: all its twins, same family and same tier, vanish from the board. On a crowded board, that opens up lots of gaps and often sets off a cascade of merges. The Magnet doesn't pick up frozen crystals, rocks or Wildcards.

Tip: aim for the most common family and tier, ideally low on the board, so as many crystals as possible fall.

Undo: a second chance

Undo puts the board back as it was before your last move and gives you that move back. It's perfect when a slide set off a chain that went wrong, or when you want to try another idea without losing a move. If there's nothing to undo yet, the game tells you.

When should you use a booster?

  • At the end of a level, when you're one merge away from your goal: that's when a booster is worth the most.
  • Against a padlock that locks the lines you need (Hammer).
  • Not too early: at the start of a level, a good slide often does just as well.

The game nudges you too: after failing the same level twice, it reminds you that the Hammer or the Magnet can unlock a tough board.

The "+5 moves" option

When you run out of moves, the end screen offers to carry on with 5 extra moves, once per attempt: either for 150 stardust, or by watching an ad if you want to. That ad is always optional; no ad ever interrupts a level.

Where boosters aren't allowed

To keep things fair, boosters are switched off in the Weekly Rift, in duels, and in the Zen and 60-second modes. The Zertyzzle game modes page covers each of these modes.

How to earn boosters for free

  • Daily quests: three small challenges renewed every day, rewarding stardust and boosters.
  • The daily wheel: one free spin a day, with stardust, boosters and sometimes a rare decorative item. Spins can never be bought.
  • Your login streak: playing every day moves you along a calendar of rewards.
  • The shop: trade the stardust you earn in the game for boosters.
  • Inviting friends: when a friend you invited with your code finishes level 10, you both get stardust and Hammers.

Booster packs are also available as fully optional in-app purchases. To learn more about how the game is funded, read our page on the puzzle game with no forced ads.

Frequently asked questions

What's the best booster in Zertyzzle?

It depends on the level. On obstacle levels, the Hammer is the most useful, since it opens padlocks and removes a layer of ice or rock. On a regular board, the Magnet often sets off the biggest cascades.

Do boosters work in the Weekly Rift?

No. The Weekly Rift is played without boosters, on the same board and with the same rules for everyone. The same goes for duels and the Zen and 60-second modes.

Does the companion give extra moves?

Yes: your companion animal grows with every game and gives you up to three extra moves at the start of map levels. All the details are on the collection, planets and season page.

Where can I talk strategy?

On the Zertyzzle forum. For more advice, read our Zertyzzle tips or head back to the game page.
