Offline puzzle games: play anywhere, no Wi-Fi needed

Looking for offline puzzle games to play on the subway, on a plane or anywhere with no signal? In Zertyzzle, the crystal merge puzzle game from Djoox Studio, levels work offline: no Wi-Fi or mobile data needed to make progress. The game is free and coming soon to Android and iPhone.

Why an offline game matters

Plenty of free mobile games won't start without the internet, or lock parts of the game as soon as your connection drops. That's annoying, especially in exactly the moments when you have time to fill:

  • commuting: subway, train, tunnels where the signal cuts out;
  • flying, in airplane mode;
  • traveling, in the countryside or abroad, when you want to save data;
  • waiting rooms with patchy Wi-Fi.

A good offline puzzle game lets you play without losing anything, then syncs what needs syncing once you're back online. It's often the first thing to check when you're hunting for games to play when bored on your phone.

What you can play offline in Zertyzzle

All 120 adventure levels

The 120 levels, spread across 12 nebulae, work offline. Slide a row or column, line up three identical crystals and watch them merge: Shard, Gem, Jewel, then Zertyon. Ice, rocks, locks, wild crystals and linked rows show up as you go, with a boss level at the end of every chapter.

Progress kept on your phone

You can start without creating an account. Your progress is then kept on your phone. If you want it on another device, you can save it later with your email, Google or Apple account once you're online.

Short sessions, perfect for a commute

A level takes a few minutes and you can pause at any time, which suits a subway ride or a short wait perfectly. With 120 levels, ice, rocks and locks to deal with, and three stars to earn on each one, there's plenty to keep you busy on a long flight.

What needs an internet connection

To be upfront, some features do need a connection:

  • duels with friends and teams;
  • the Weekly Rift, its leagues and the leaderboards;
  • saving your progress online.

The good news: for the Weekly Rift and duels, if your score can't be sent right away, it goes out as soon as you're back online. Find out more in the guide to Zertyzzle game modes.

What about ads?

Zertyzzle is free to play and supported by ads, but ads never interrupt a level. Some are offered in exchange for a bonus, and it's your choice whether to watch them. The Zertyzzle Club subscription removes forced ads. The full story is on our page about finding a puzzle game with no ads.

Offline and relaxing

Offline doesn't have to mean stressful. Zen mode, with no move limit and no goals, lets you play at your own pace. If calm is what you're after, have a look at our page on relaxing puzzle games.
